Rölvaag, author of GIANTS IN THE EARTH, has written another classic telling the story of Lizzy and Louis Houglum, whose parents were settlers in the Dakota Territory before Minnesota became a state. Rölvaag shows what happens to this married couple when they allow themselves to become gold-hoarding misers and how these two people sow the seeds of their own destruction. Province, tells the additional story of how Rölvaag wrote (and translated) this story from the original Norwegian language giving a play-by-play description of the problems and obstacles that stood in his way and how he managed to get the book published in spite of these road-blocks.
